I can almost imagine the astringent taste of this already; although it looks like a candy wrapper, it's Supari, or Betelnut. An addictive hard nut, as popular as coffee and cigarettes in Asia, chewed usually by men for it's stimulating properties. It's popularity in East London disclosed by the dark red spit stains from the nut that mark the pavements. It's at once bitter, acrid, woody and floral, and this brand is sweet too. It comes with health warnings similar to tobacco.
