Chunk of chalk with algae

Chalk is a material entirely made of the bodies and shells of tiny creatures, ancient marine algae. It is a mass of souls conjoined to make this soft, rich rock. It’s a quintessentially English material, which used to play a much bigger part in our London childhood now that the days of blackboards and playing out on the street unattended are mostly gone. I like that this particular piece has been reinhabited by algae once again.
